Transportation is essential for maintaining independence and health. It is crucial to ensure access to essential services such as medical care and grocery shopping. The availability of adequate transportation enables adults to live independently in their communities, helps to prevent isolation and the possible need for long-term care placement. Many adults, who do not drive, must rely on family and friends to provide much of the transportation. For others, it is necessary to find community resources to provide transportation, as this vital support service may be their only connection to the outside world. Having access to transportation keeps adults connected with family, friends and their community.
Below are some local transportation resources available:
STAR Transit

Dial-A-Ride service can be booked one business day to up to two weeks in advance and allows riders to connect to DART and other regional transportation networks. Property
Cedar Hill homeowners 65 and older can file for an over 65 homestead exemption which reduces their home's taxable value by $30,000. Cedar Hill homeowners 65 and older may also defer or postpone paying any property taxes on their home for as long as they own the home and live in it. The deferral only postpones payment of taxes; it does not cancel them. It also accrues five (5) percent interest annually until the deferral is removed. When the property is sold or the ownership is transferred to the estate/heirs, the taxes and accrued interest becomes payable.
