Traffic Control Changes Happening Now
A new traffic signal is being installed at FM 1382 at the entrance near Chik-Fil-A. This will increase safety for drivers who cross FM 1382 from the Plaza shopping center to the Home Depot/Albertson's center. This work is being done by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

The intersection of Weaver and Joe Wilson has been changed from a 4-way stop to a 2-way stop. A traffic study in October showed that a 4-way stop is not warranted. Stop signs have been removed from Joe Wilson. Drivers who stop at the stop signs on Weaver must yield to the Joe Wilson traffic which will no longer stops at the intersection. A “Cross Traffic Does Not Stop” sign has been placed on both approaches at Weaver. Orange caution flags have been added to the signs to increase awareness.

The intersection of Parkerville and Highland will change from a 4-way stop to a 2-way stop. The traffic study showed that a 4-way stop is not warranted. Stop signs will be removed from Parkerville. Drivers on Highland will have to yield to the Parkerville traffic which will no longer stop at the intersection. A “Cross Traffic Does Not Stop” sign will be placed on both approaches at Highland. Orange caution flags will increase visibility.

Stop signs at the intersection of Capricorn and Saturn will be rearranged. This is currently a 2-way stop with traffic stopping on Capricorn only. A recent traffic study indicates that the stop signs need to be placed on Saturn and removed from Capricorn. A “Cross Traffic Does Not Stop” sign will be placed on both approaches at Saturn. Orange caution flags will also be added to increases visibility.

A “hooded” left turn lane has been installed on FM 1382 near the Speedy B. The hooded left turn is an opening in the median that allows drivers on the west bound side of FM 1382 to turn left into the Plaza at Cedar Hill shopping center while preventing drivers from cutting straight across FM 1382. This work was done by TxDOT.

Residential Trash Rate Increase
The City Council recently agreed to a 5.46% cost-of-living rate increase requested by Waste Management, in accordance with the August 2006 contract. This increase is consistent with the Dallas Fort Worth Consumer Price Index (CPI).
Waste Management explained that the increase was due to higher fuel expenses and other rising costs.
The firm provides residents twice weekly trash, bundled brush and bulky item pickup, weekly recycling and monthly loose brush collection.

Adopt-A-Soldier logo
The Mayor’s Adopt-A-Soldier program is your chance to adopt an overseas soldier and show them how much you care during this upcoming holiday season and beyond. You can adopt a soldier within your Department or School, as a family or just by yourself; Either way, each adopted soldier will know that you care.

Anyone and everyone can participate in this program simply by purchasing a $10 prepaid postage box and fill it with whatever you'd like. There is no weight limit or item limit, and the postage takes care of the cost to ship the box filled with whatever you like.

A Soldier's Wish List of suggested items will be included in the box. To get your box, simply purchase one at the Information desk of the Government Center, fill it and return it to the Information desk when you are ready to send. To guarantee your box gets there by Thanksgiving, please have your box returned to the Gov. Center Information desk by November 1st and for Christmas, by December 1st.

ALSO - Please send us names of the men and women soldiers you know who are overseas so that we can add them to the adoption list. Recycle Every Wednesday
Can you believe what recycling has done for Cedar Hill?

Since January, the citizens of Cedar Hill have recycled over 1,750 tons of recyclable materials, diverted 5,300 cubic yards of waste from the landfill and saved approximately 30,000 trees. Every citizen who recycles is making a big difference, but the fact is that only about 34% of Cedar Hill citizens recycle. If we could get the rest of the population to start recycling, just think of what a difference we could make in our City and the environment.

Recycling is easy! No sorting is necessary and Waste Management will pick it up right in front of your house (or alley). Citizens are not charged any more for this service and much of what you put in the trash can be recycled.

Recycleable items include, but are not limited to: glass and plastic bottles, aluminum and steel food and beverage cans, cardboard and junk mail, cereal boxes, paper towel rolls, newspapers and magazines, aerosol cans, as well as emptied and rinsed out detergent bottles.

Items that can not be recycled are: styrofoam, pizza boxes, aluminum foil, light bulbs, plastic grocery bags, and ceramic containers and dishes.

As a reminder, all residential recycling is picked up on Wednesdays. Should you have any questions, please refer to the City's website for updates or call 972.291.5100 ext. 1007.

Waste Watch
Waste Management has provided it's drivers with special training to spot and report anything suspicious or dangerous to their dispatcher or directly to 9-1-1. Waste Management drivers travel our community's roads at all hours. They will report such events as vehicle crashes, fires, road hazards and suspicious activities. Their drivers will act as another pair of eyes and ears to our local law enforcement.
